Muscat – French rider Baptiste Veistroffer of Team Lotto–Intermarché secured a remarkable solo win during the second stage of the Tour of Oman 2026 on Sunday. The event, which is organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in partnership with the Oman Cycling Association, saw the 25-year-old cyclist launch a decisive late attack from the day’s breakaway to cross the finish line at the Yitti Highlands in 4 hours, 22 minutes, and 43 seconds. The podium was completed by Eritrea’s Henok Mulubrhan of Team XDS Astana, who took second place, and French compatriot Thibaud Gruel of Team Groupama–FDJ United in third. Veistroffer’s impressive performance earned him the overall leader’s red jersey as well as the green points jersey. Meanwhile, the gold jersey for the most aggressive rider was awarded to Poland’s Patryk Goszczurny, and Gruel claimed the white jersey for the best young rider under 23. The demanding 191.5 km route began at the historic Rustaq Fort and traversed through Wadi Al Ma’awil, Fanja, and the Al Rusayl Industrial Estate. After a challenging ascent at Al Murtafa’a and a descent along Al Ansab road, the peloton pushed through Bausher and Al Amerat before tackling the final climb at Al Hamriya. The stage concluded with a trophy ceremony presided over by Basil bin Ahmed Al Rowas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports. Looking ahead, the competition continues on Monday with Stage 3, starting from the Al Fayhaa rest area in Samail. The upcoming route will take the cyclists through the interior of the Dakhliyah Governorate, passing the Al Hoota Cave and ending with a steep ascent to Misfat Al Abriyeen.
