Ibra – In a move aimed at revitalising domestic tourism and supporting the national economy, North Sharqiyah has invited investment bids for the operations and management of a restaurant and tourist cafe in the Hawer area of the wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid. The initiative is part of wider efforts to enhance tourism services at key natural attractions across the sultanate and to encourage private sector participation in tourism-led development. Wadi Bani Khalid is among Oman’s most visited wadis, known for its flowing waters, scenic mountain setting and accessibility for families and visitors throughout the year. Officials say the proposed cafe and restaurant will improve visitor facilities, enhance the tourism experience and help organise services in the area. The project will be developed on a site covering approximately 579.6sqm. Plans include indoor and outdoor seating areas, restrooms, changing rooms and other supporting amenities designed to serve tourists and excursion groups. The North Sharqiyah Governor’s Office has called on specialised companies and investors to compete for the tender under specified terms and conditions, with clear timelines set for obtaining tender documents and submitting bids. The project is also expected to deliver local economic benefits by creating jobs, stimulating small business activity and increasing visitor spending in Wadi Bani Khalid and surrounding areas. The initiative aligns with Oman’s economic diversification strategy, which positions tourism as a key non-oil growth sector. By investing in service-oriented projects at natural destinations, authorities aim to promote sustainable tourism while preserving environmental and cultural assets.
