Muscat – Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a formal circular on Tuesday, aimed at regulating the sale and registration of unmanned aircraft, commonly known as drones. This initiative, aligned with the National Aviation Strategy 2040, is designed to enhance airspace safety and protect both individuals and property through stricter oversight of drone transactions. According to the new mandate, all commercial outlets involved in the sale of unmanned aircraft are strictly required to hold a valid license and adhere to established regulatory frameworks. Authorized sellers are now obligated to register all drone units through the official AirPortal platform. Furthermore, the CAA has stipulated that the formal transfer of ownership to the buyer’s account via the Serb application must be completed before the physical handover of any aircraft. The Authority has strongly advised individual purchasers to acquire drones exclusively from these authorized points of sale to ensure legal compliance. The CAA further warned that any sale, trade, or operation of unmanned aerial vehicles conducted outside of these approved channels constitutes a legal violation. Such actions may lead to legal accountability, with the Authority prepared to take all necessary measures in accordance with Omani law to maintain aviation security.
