Land bridge to aid 100,000 in Yemen ahead of Ramadan

Muscat – Oman has launched the first phase of a humanitarian land bridge to Yemen in conjunction with the month of Ramadan, reaffirming the sultanate’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian solidarity and regional support for communities in need. Led by Oman Charitable Organization (OCO), the initiative focuses in its initial phase on Al Mahrah governorate and its districts, delivering food assistance aimed at supporting vulnerable families during Ramadan. The land bridge will carry more than 28,500 food parcels, expected to benefit over 100,000 people. The food baskets include essential staples sufficient to support families throughout the fasting month, helping to ease financial and social pressures on low-income households. The Ramadan assistance is part of Oman’s broader external humanitarian programmes, which prioritise food security and basic relief for populations facing difficult living conditions. OCO said the programme reflects the values of compassion and cooperation that underpin Omani humanitarian work, particularly during Ramadan, when charitable giving and social solidarity take on added significance. The organisation works in coordination with local partners on the ground to ensure efficient distribution and to prioritise the most vulnerable groups, including low-income families, widows and displaced persons. The latest effort also underscores Oman’s consistent approach to humanitarian diplomacy, which emphasises practical support and rapid response to alleviate suffering. Over the years, the sultanate has maintained relief channels to a number of countries facing humanitarian challenges, with Yemen remaining a key focus due to geographic proximity and humanitarian considerations. Observers note that land bridges provide a reliable and timely mechanism for aid delivery, particularly for food assistance, enabling supplies to reach beneficiaries quickly and at lower logistical cost compared to other routes. With the arrival of Ramadan, Omani charitable institutions traditionally scale up programmes, including food distribution and community support initiatives, both domestically and abroad. The Yemen land bridge is one of the flagship efforts this season, highlighting Oman’s ongoing role in regional humanitarian action and its commitment to supporting affected communities beyond its borders.
