Muscat – The State Council and Majlis A’Shura will convene a joint sitting of the Council of Oman on Tuesday as part of their legislative mandate under the Law of the Council of Oman. The joint sitting is held in accordance with Article 49 of the law, which sets out procedures for reviewing draft laws when differences arise between the two chambers. The mechanism provides for joint deliberation and voting on provisions where consensus has not been reached. A number of draft laws are scheduled for discussion, including the Real Estate Register Law, the Civil Society Organisations Law, amendments to certain provisions of the Arbitration in Civil and Commercial Disputes Law issued by Royal Decree No 47/97, and the draft Law on Combating Information Technology Crimes. The agenda includes amendments to certain provisions of the Fisheries Law, the National Spatial Data and Geographic Information Law, and the Sports Associations Law. Joint sittings of the State Council and Majlis A’Shura are a key stage in Oman’s legislative process, helping harmonise views between the two chambers and advance consensus on national legislation. Such sessions support the continued development of the sultanate’s legal framework in line with national priorities and sustainable development goals. The sitting is expected to see completion of the legislative cycle for the draft laws under review, paving the way for the next constitutional steps in the law-making process.
