Muscat – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has signed a contract with an Omani company to manage and operate Al Jalali Fort in Muscat governorate, reinforcing efforts to strengthen public-private partnerships in the management of heritage assets. The agreement is aimed at maximising the economic and cultural value of the sultanate’s historic landmarks by positioning them as drivers of sustainable growth. Al Jalali Fort, one of Muscat’s most iconic monuments, holds significant historical and cultural importance, reflecting the depth of Oman’s legacy and maritime heritage. Under the new management model, the fort is expected to undergo enhanced operational development to boost its appeal as a heritage tourism destination, attracting visitors from within Oman and abroad. The move is also set to strengthen the role of the private sector in operating heritage sites in line with international best practices. The project is anticipated to generate investment opportunities across tourism and cultural activities, including the organisation of events, exhibitions and traditional craft showcases, supporting creative industries while adding value to the site. In addition, the initiative is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for the local community, contributing to broader economic and social development goals. Following the upgrade of its facilities, Al Jalali Fort is projected to further stimulate tourism growth, increase visitor spending and encourage entrepreneurship in hospitality and allied services, consolidating its position as a leading cultural and tourism landmark on Oman’s tourism map.
