Muscat – The Ministry of Health (MoH), represented by the Directorate General of Health Services in Muscat, has issued medical guidance for individuals living with diabetes to help them fast safely during Ramadan. In an awareness message released as part of its Ramadan health campaign, the ministry urged diabetic patients to ensure adequate hydration between iftar and suhoor to avoid dehydration. It also advised avoiding sugary foods and sweetened juices, which can cause sudden spikes in blood glucose levels. MoH stressed the importance of engaging in moderate physical activity, preferably after iftar, while regularly monitoring blood sugar levels throughout the fasting period. Patients were further reminded to strictly adhere to their prescribed treatment plans and consult their doctors before making any changes to medication schedules. The ministry also recommended delaying suhoor as much as possible to help maintain stable blood glucose levels during fasting hours. The advisory is part of the ministry’s broader efforts to promote safe fasting practices and safeguard public health during Ramadan.
