Muscat Municipality launches Ramadan food safety campaign

2026-03-02 - 16:37

Muscat – As part of its intensified public health efforts during Ramadan, Muscat Municipality has launched a comprehensive inspection and awareness campaign targeting restaurants, cafés and food outlets across the governorate. The campaign focuses on ensuring that meals prepared and displayed for iftar and suhoor are handled in accordance with approved health regulations – properly covered and protected from dust, insects and environmental contaminants. The civic body stressed the fact that exposed meals are highly susceptible to contamination from microbes and bacteria, increasing the risk of foodborne illnesses. Inspectors are conducting field visits to monitor compliance, reinforce hygiene standards and take necessary action against violations. The municipality called on food establishments to adhere strictly to food safety requirements to safeguard public health, noting that maintaining high standards during Ramadan – a period of increased food preparation and consumption – is a shared responsibility. Consumers have been urged to report any violations through the municipality’s official communication channels to help ensure safe and healthy food for all.
