Oman as sole venue for Iran-US negotiations: Iran Foreign Ministry

Tehran, Iran – The Iranian Foreign Ministry has officially dismissed claims that indirect negotiations between Iran and US were scheduled to take place in any country other than Oman. According to a report by IRNA, speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei clarified that Muscat has remained the consistently agreed-upon venue for these diplomatic exchanges. While acknowledging the goodwill and mediation efforts of various regional neighbours, including Turkiye, Baqaei emphasised that no arrangements were ever made to move the discussions to an alternative location. He noted that although several nations expressed a readiness to facilitate the process and reduce regional tensions, Iran’s decision to remain in Oman was influenced by a positive historical experience with Omani hosting and the specific focus of the negotiations on nuclear issues. The spokesperson further highlighted that senior Iranian officials, including the Foreign Minister and the President, have maintained active communication with counterparts across the Persian Gulf and beyond to promote regional security. However, Baqaei pointedly remarked that Muscat remains the significant site for these talks, noting it was the same location where the United States previously withdrew from the negotiating table last June. Tehran continues to view the Omani capital as the primary hub for its ongoing diplomatic engagement.
