Oman hosts second round of indirect Iran-US nuclear talks in Geneva

Geneva, Switzerland – H E Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, held high-level discussions in Geneva with his Iranian counterpart, Dr Abbas Araghchi. The diplomatic meeting was convened to finalise preparations for the second round of indirect negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, which are scheduled to commence on Tuesday in the Swiss city. The two ministers underscored the necessity of fostering an environment conducive to consensus and mutual understanding. They expressed a shared commitment to achieving a diplomatic breakthrough that aligns with the strategic objectives of all involved parties. During the exchange, Sayyid Badr reiterated Oman’s enduring dedication to the principles of dialogue and mediation. He emphasised that the Sultanate remains steadfast in its efforts to bolster regional security and stability, noting that such diplomatic avenues are essential to safeguarding the Middle East from the devastation of armed conflict. In addition to his consultations with the Iranian delegation, the Foreign Minister met with the Vice President of the Swiss Federal Council and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. These discussions highlighted the collaborative role of Switzerland as the host nation and Oman as the primary mediator in these sensitive international proceedings. Sayyid Badr expressed his profound appreciation for the international community’s confidence in Omani diplomacy, affirming that the Sultanate treats its role as a facilitator with the highest degree of seriousness and responsibility.
