Oman joins extraordinary meeting of GCC Information Ministers

Muscat – Oman participated in an extraordinary meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Information Ministers, held via videoconference to address rapid regional developments and bolster media coordination. Representing the Sultanate, H E Dr Abdullah Nasser Al Harrasi, Minister of Information, emphasized that the current geopolitical climate demands a media message of heightened significance. He stressed the imperative of maintaining a responsible discourse that fosters stability and reinforces the collective confidence of GCC societies in navigating contemporary challenges. During the session, Dr Al Harrasi noted that the present phase requires a steadfast commitment to the established principles of Gulf media, which are rooted in wisdom, prudence, and the prioritisation of shared regional interests. He further highlighted that Oman’s diplomatic efforts, supported by fellow GCC states, are driven by a sincere ambition to protect the region from the devastating consequences of conflict. The Minister asserted that as the repercussions of regional instability expand, the media’s responsibility to serve as a voice of reason and a bulwark against misinformation becomes increasingly paramount. The meeting was chaired by Dr Ramzan Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Bahrain’s Minister of Information, who took the opportunity to praise the Sultanate’s diplomatic role under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. Specifically, he lauded Oman’s successful efforts in bridging viewpoints between the United States and Iran, a contribution deemed vital for international peace and security. Discussions concluded with a shared commitment to intensifying integration among official media institutions to counter rumors and disinformation campaigns effectively.
