Muscat – Oman Charitable Organization (OCO) has completed its annual Ramadan iftar assistance programme in the Hadhramaut governorate of Yemen and in Somalia. Known as the Iftar Saem programme, it was implemented for the 23rd consecutive year as part of Oman’s humanitarian activities abroad during Ramadan, benefitting more than 100,000 people from vulnerable families in Yemen. Food assistance and daily iftar meals were distributed in several districts of Hadhramaut to support low-income households and communities facing difficult living conditions. The programme aims to help fasting individuals break their fast throughout the holy month. Badr bin Mohammed Al Zaabi, acting CEO of OCO, said the programme reflects Oman’s approach to providing humanitarian support to communities in need across the region. He said the organisation remains committed to assisting vulnerable groups and easing hardship, particularly during Ramadan. Al Zaabi said the organisation attaches importance to continuing its overseas Ramadan aid programmes. The programme is carried out in coordination with local partners to ensure assistance reaches beneficiaries efficiently. OCO implemented a similar iftar programme in Somalia recently to support needy and displaced families during Ramadan. According to OCO, the initiative provides essential food supplies through direct relief operations conducted in coordination with local authorities and partner organisations. The programme targets areas where humanitarian needs are most urgent. Field teams of OCO supervise the distribution process to ensure aid delivery follows humanitarian standards and reaches intended beneficiaries. OCO said the Ramadan programmes are part of its broader efforts to expand humanitarian assistance outside Oman while supporting communities facing economic and social challenges.
