Muscat – The Coast Guard Police Command of the Royal Oman Police has successfully attained international accreditation for the delivery of the Basic Maritime Safety course. This milestone confirms that the Command has met the rigorous global standards established by the International Convention on standards of training, certification and watchkeeping for seafarers (STCW 78). This achievement was facilitated through close coordination with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. This newly acquired accreditation empowers the Coast Guard Police Command to conduct a comprehensive suite of essential maritime safety training programmes and issue internationally recognised certificates. Such certification is vital for ensuring that personnel possess the necessary competencies to manage marine emergencies and perform salvage tasks. By aligning with these global technical standards, the initiative significantly bolsters the proficiency of maritime cadres operating within the Sultanate of Oman. This development represents a strategic leap in the professional qualification of national personnel, ensuring their skills remain current with evolving international maritime laws.
