Calls for end to the attacks and missile strikes against sites in countries of the region Muscat – The Foreign Ministry expressed the Sultanate of Oman’s deep regret over the military operations carried out by Israel and the United States of America against the Islamic Republic of Iran. It warned of the risk of the conflict expanding in the region with grave consequences. ‘Oman considers this act as a violation of the rules of international law and of the principle of resolving disputes through peaceful means rather than hostile measures and bloodshed.’ It called on all parties to suspend military operations immediately and urged the United Nations Security Council to convene an urgent meeting to impose a ceasefire. It also called on the international community to take a clear position in support of international law. ‘The sultanate affirms the right of states to self defence in accordance with international law, while at the same time calling for restraint and adherence to diplomatic solutions.’ Oman had been serving as a mediator in indirect US-Iran talks prior to the attacks. In a separate message, H E Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, said he was dismayed. “Active and serious negotiations have yet again been undermined. Neither the interests of the United States nor the cause of global peace are well served by this. And I pray for the innocents who will suffer. I urge the United States not to get sucked in further. This is not your war.” Oman also strongly called for an end to the attacks and missile strikes against sites in countries of the region, including Saudi, Emirati, Qatari, Kuwaiti, Bahraini, Iranian, Iraqi and Jordanian territories. Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi, GCC Secretary-General GCC chief denounces Iran attacks, warns of regional escalation Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, has strongly condemned the Iranian missile attacks targeting the territories of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait, describing these as “flagrant violation” of their sovereignty. In a statement, Al Budaiwi affirmed the solidarity of all GCC member states and their unified position in confronting the attacks. He said the council would place all its capabilities at the disposal of measures aimed at safeguarding its sovereignty, security and national interests. He added that the GCC states reserve the right to respond and defend themselves in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations. The Secretary-General warned of “grave consequences” of what he described as an unjustified escalation, saying it poses a threat to regional security and stability. He reiterated that the GCC countries have consistently advocated maintaining peace, security and stability in the region for the benefit of its peoples.
