2026-03-01 - 08:56

Muscat – The United States Embassy in Muscat has issued an emergency directive to its personnel and all American citizens currently in Oman, instructing them to shelter-in-place immediately. This urgent security notification follows reports of ongoing activity occurring outside the capital city, prompting officials to advise individuals to take cover and remain indoors until further notice. Under the current guidance, American nationals are urged to identify and remain within a secure location, such as a private residence or a reinforced building. Officials emphasize the importance of maintaining a sufficient stockpile of essential supplies, including non-perishable food, water, and necessary medications. Residents are encouraged to monitor local and international media outlets for breaking developments and to remain flexible as the security situation evolves. To ensure personal safety, the embassy recommends that individuals keep mobile devices fully charged and maintain regular contact with family and friends to provide updates on their status. Furthermore, all U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). This service allows the State Department to send critical security updates and makes it easier for the embassy to locate individuals in the event of an emergency. For those requiring immediate assistance, the Omani emergency services can be reached by dialling 9999. U.S. citizens in need of consular support are advised to contact the American Embassy in Muscat via telephone at +968 2464-3400 or through email at MuscatACS@state.gov. Additional support is available through the State Department’s Consular Affairs office in Washington, D.C.
